Arts Centre Melbourne is hosting a free panel discussion featuring world-renowned horticulturalists James Hitchmough and Nigel Dunnett to talk about the growing movement around naturalistic urban spaces and planting for biodiversity as our climate continues to change.

Currently based at the University of Sheffield, James Hitchmough is Professor of Horticultural Ecology but has close ties with Australia. Nigel Dunnett, Professor of Planting Design and Urban Horticulture at the University of Sheffield, and James are working together on the designs and plantings for the new 18,000sqm public space that will be delivered as part of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project.

James and Nigel are also co-authors of the wildly successful book – The Dynamic Landscape: Design, Ecology and Management of Naturalistic Urban Planting.

The discussion will be chaired by Jon Hazelwood, Principal and Design Director for Public Realm at Hassell. Joining the discussion will be Bree Trevena, Senior Manager Urban Realm and Precinct for the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation, and Emma Cutting, founder of The Heart Gardening Project and the Melbourne Pollinator Corridor.

This event is produced by the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation, Arts Centre Melbourne and the National Gallery of Victoria.
