Can I apply as a group/collective?
Yes. The opportunity is open to individuals or groups – provided the project is led by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artist who is based in Victoria.
What if it’s a group of artists/collective and not all are based in Victoria?
A group of artists/collective where not all members are based in Victoria are still eligible to apply as long as the lead Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artist is based in Victoria.
I am from Victoria but have recently relocated interstate – am I still eligible?
The lead artist will need to be based here in Victoria for this opportunity.
I don’t have any experience with public artwork, can I still apply?
Yes. This opportunity is open to emerging, mid-career and established artists. However, due to the scale, profile and complexity of the project, some experience with public art or major projects would be beneficial. Therefore, if you are a creative practitioner who hasn’t worked in the public art space before, we would recommend submitting a group application with another artist who has, or with a design team or public art project manager. If you have questions about this please reach out to us via [email protected]
I have specific access needs. How do I know you’ll be able to accommodate them?
If you have specific access needs, or if there are any barriers that may prevent you from fully participating in the selection or commissioning process, please let us know as part of the submission form. Alternatively please reach out to us via [email protected]
What are you looking for?
We’re looking for ambitious and creative ideas that are responsive to the garden site and its environmental surroundings, and the curatorial vision and themes of the commission. We’re not fixed on a specific physical form the work should take, it could be anything from integrated landscape design, to sculpture, to sound and digital media or ground painting and engraving. We’re open to ideas from a variety of mediums and materiality so long as they can meet the artwork lifespan requirements of 25 years and align with the parameters of the site with regard to loading and accessibility etc.
Can I submit an idea or concept I’ve used before?
No. This opportunity is for original works that respond to the curatorial vision and themes.
